Thank you to Diaper-eez for providing us with a list of the top 10 toys that are not only fun, they also encourage sensory development.
1. Sophie: The must-have French giraffe made from all natural rubber. Babies love to chew on her legs and face, they love to make her squeak.
2. Whoozit: A fun stroller toy that is soft and has lots of things to pull, squeeze, honk, and shake. It also has a black and white side that provides great contrast for the developing sight of the smallest new babes.
3. Multi-Sensory Silicone Teether: A medical grade silicone ring (so it’s safe to be in tiny mouths) that has areas with different textures on it.
4. Odd Ducks: Every kid loves a rubber duck right?
5. Spoons: Spoons are great because if you’ve forgotten to bring a toy to the restaurant with you, you can always ask your server for a pile of teaspoons for your kid to throw on the floor!
6. Egg Shakers: Babies are fascinated by noise. They’re even more fascinated when they figure out that they can actually make noise themselves.
7. Plush Toys That Rattle: Make sure it’s easily washable, replaceable and small enough to keep your little one’s hands busy.
8. Blanket Buddies: Often called security blankets or blankeys, these toys with soft, blanket bodies and animal heads are cuddly and perfect for learning about texture.
9. Skwish: Made by Manhattan Toy, it features wooden rods in primary and complimentary colours that are connected by soft and stretchable black cords that let you squish the Skwish almost completely flat while the wooden balls clink and slide in different configurations depending on how you hold and turn the toy.
10. A Ball: Any ball. Your kid won’t be disappointed!

We have 8 of the top 10 toys!!! Mila is in love with her Whoozit….. so much so when we don’t bring ours out she finds someone else who brought theirs to play with!! Mila also LOVES the old school stack rings, she takes them off..puts them back on, bangs them and chews on them too!!!
My daughter loves any kind of ball – they can entertain her for hours! I would also add board books to this list. We read them to her all the time, and she loves playing with them as objects on her own, turning the pages and looking at the pictures.
Stacking Cups. My sons love placing them on top of each other or inside each other. Also anything that makes a noise…he loves his egg shaker and rainmaker.
Lots of favourites, but we had two sets of stacking cups because my daughter loved them so much. One for home, and a smaller set that we kept in the diaper bag for outings.
Egg shakers are a fan favourite in our house. My two shake them in the car along with the music. All that shaking often tires them out and they sleep. Yay for egg shakers!

All the babies at the playgroup I went to love the “sensory” balls, the ones with the little nubs all over them. They were a very popular item.
