Toddler Craft Idea: How To Re-Use Old Crayons

02/27/2012

Those of you who have taken our Toddler Program at The Busy Genie, know and love our fantastic caregiver Lisa Sommer.  She told me about this brilliant idea, and I thought that I would share it with the group!

1. Find & gather all your old/unused crayons

2. Remove the paper around them all

3. Chop-up the crayons into smaller pieces

4. Place mixed pieces of crayons in silicone baking pan  (kids like to join in & help with this part!)

5. Place baking pan in oven at 400 degrees for about 5-10 min.   Time is not guaranteed ***please stay by the oven and watch the crayons melt as this DOES happen fast, please don’t walk away or the wax might burn!!***

6. Once melted, remove pan from oven and let cool

7. Once they are completely cooled down, remove your new & improved mixed crayons from the pan, and Voila! you have “NEW CRAYONS” for the kids!
