I was on a holiday to South Carolina and I felt terrible nearly the entire time. I was sick constantly and when our good friends had a baby in Tennessee, we made the 9 hour trek to meet their new baby during our holiday and I got to visit nearly every other ditch and rest stop along the way! I vividly remember grumpily telling the baggage counter person at the airport during our departure that I had the flu and had a terrible holiday! When we got home, it suddenly occurred to me that I should take a pregnancy test. I nearly fell over when I found out! That night, we went to my mom’s house for dinner. I brought my laptop to show them a slideshow of photos from our trip. The last picture was the pregnancy test! It was a great way to share the news.

My husband and I had been trying for a baby for almost one year. Every month I kept taking tests with the answer always being “negative”. This time I almost fainted when I saw a “positive” result! I wanted to surprize my husband so I cooked him all of his dinner baby sized! I make a cornish hen (mini chicken) baby carrots, baby peas, and mini potatoes! I wondered if he would notice what I had done, but; when he looked at his plate I knew he though something was weird. He asked why everything was small? I said everything was baby sized! He asked why? And I said because we have to get used to having things baby sized really soon! He just looked at me and knew what I meant! He scooped me up and gave me a big hug nd kiss! Our son was born September 2009! He is the light of our lives!!!
Sorry I forgot to mention I was from Toronto, Ontario Canada
What am amazing idea Cheryl – I love it!
We were on a holiday with my sister and bro-in-law when she told us she was pregnant. I was feeling horrible the entire week and my sister went out to buy me a pregnancy test. Sure enough, I was pregnant too! This was a huge surprise for everyone as I was told that chemotherapy would likely leave me infertile. We went home and had t-shirts made saying “Mama to be” and wore them to my mom’s birthday party – our parents almost fell over! GREAT day!!
We had 2 “annoucements”. The first was to my parents and in-laws. We took them out for lunch and gave each of them a card. The card had a beautiful photo of a sleeping baby on the front and inside the card read “Congratulations on your bundle of joy” to which I then wrote “… arriving in July!”. *insert tears here from both mothers*.
The second announcement was to the rest of the immediate and extended family at Christmas (when I was officially past the 12 week mark). Our annoucment wasn’t planned or rehearsed but my nephew received a large chocolate in his initial (which happened to be B) from my aunt. Jokingly I took it from him and said that it was mine. I asked him “What else starts with the letter B?” The room was silent (and confused) until I placed the chocolate on my tummy and said “Baby”!
My husband and I really wanted to get pregnant in the same year we were getting married. We thought it would be so cool to be able to announce the pregnancy at our wedding provided we were past the 3 month mark. Well that night we decided to try and sure enough that night we succeeded and we were 3 months by the time the wedding rolled around. Luckily the wedding gown still fit and no one could tell. We slipped in an ultrasound picture into the photo reel that was running during the dinner and throughout the speeches. The picture created some buzz, but no one was for certain. So when it was time for us to thank our guests for coming, we announced we were also expecting our first baby boy.
