Money Monday Feature: Discovery Toys

Every Monday for the month of June we’re going to feature a new business that allows you to make some income from working from home!   Our first feature?  Julie O’Toole from Discovery Toys.

Tell us about your business, and why you got started with Discovery Toys?

When I first learned about Discovery Toys, I fell in love with their mission statement: Teach. Play. Inspire. When I joined the company, my twins were almost 2 and I wanted toys for them that were both stimulating and fun and Discovery Toys was the answer! So when I was told I could get $345 worth of these toys for $140 and then continue to purchase these toys at whole sale, I thought, what a deal for myself, my friends and my family! Little did I know, it was actually the beginning of a very lucrative business for me.

I truly believe that play is a child’s work…children play to learn, to grow, and to experience the world around them. Through a high level of open-ended play, DISCOVERY TOYS® products encourage a child’s positive growth and development.

What are some of your favourite Discovery Toys products?

Giant Pegboard  – this toy taught my kids their colours and shapes. It is great for fine motor skills, tower building, patterning and sequencing (pre-math and pre-reading skills). It comes with 12 double sided activity cards to give parents 24 different ways to use the toy. Turn it over and it’s a Geoboard with elastic bands! For 19+ months to school years.Measure Up Cups – nesting, stacking, colour sorting, waterplay (bathtub, splash pad), playdough play, sandbox play, number and language skills, early time reading skills, volumetrically accurate, compact and excellent for travel…I  can’t say enough about this toy. So versatile! A must for every child!

Keyboard Kylie – this is brand new to our line but I LOVE it! It can be strapped to a stroller bar, grocery cart or crib rail. Plays individual songs for younger kids or can be switched to keyboard mode for older kids complete with colour coded song cards. At 3, my kids eyes light up just as much as the babies I’ve shown it to.

Why is your company a good fit for moms looking to make some income while working from home?

For me, Discovery Toys provides a meaningful business opportunity. It’s a career that allows me to build my work schedule around my family while earning an income that supports my lifestyle. I basically get paid to play with my children!

Make your own hours, be your own boss but be “surrounded” by amazing women that help you through every step of the way.
