A little known fact about me: I once spent a summer waitressing at an Ontario resort and it was one of the best summers I’ve ever had. Not exactly Dirty Dancing, but our “Staff Hill” residence had some pretty wild tales 😉
I would see happy families check it to the resort and always thought it was an awesome way for young children to vacation. Now with a family of my own, we’ve been heading to Rocky Crest Golf Club in Muskoka for 3 years in a row and it’s a family tradition I suspect we will maintain for many years to come.
A short 2 hour drive from Toronto, Rocky Crest is located on the beautiful Lake Joseph in Muskoka. This all suite resort (all rooms have kitchenettes) also features 3 restaurants and 3 championship golf courses.
However, my favourite thing about the resort is waterfront. Pool, hot tub, inflatable climbers, paddle boards, canoes, kayaks, fishing, and a sandy beach all overlooking Lake Joseph. It’s the perfect size for an active child like mine to run from activity to activity without fear of me losing him.
Our annual tradition is to go with a group of 5 families. After the chaotic fun of spending a day at the waterfront with 12 kids, we always take advantage of the resort’s babysitting program. Our kids pair up for sleepovers, and we go for a tasty adults only dinner at Windows Steakhouse.
We also always do a least one-day of camp at the Armishaw Sports Club Kids Camp. Their day camp is geared towards children 4-12 and the camp counselors are amazing with the kids. They lead them through a variety of activities including swimming in their own special pool, hikes, fishing, arts and crafts and a large indoor playroom for rainy days. For those with younger children, there is also one on one babysitting services available. During our last visit, we accidentally stumbled across the camp going for a hike. Not wanting to be spotted for fear of losing our adult only afternoon, we hid behind a group of parked cars and watched the counselors and kids interact. There was lots of singing, handholding, piggybacks and laughter.
The natural background of the championship Rocky Crest Golf Course is stunning. While I’m not a golfer, I do love the On The Green restaurant. Overlooking the 18th green, this beautiful dining room is located inside a Muskoka log cabin and serves up delicious meals. Their patio is the perfect spot to unwind while the littles are in camp.
If you’re looking for a mini getaway to cottage country, that’s fun for the whole family, check out Rocky Crest Golf Resort!
