I think that it’s every small business owner’s dream to sneak away from the daily grind and focus on his or her business uninterrupted. Be it a big project you need to tackle, or simply just cleaning out your inbox, there is always more work to be done than time in the day.
Like most moms who leave the corporate world to find a new career path, I made that decision so that I could be at home during my son’s early years. However, being at home with him also means being at home with his laundry, his dirty dishes and the Lego land mine that I need to strategically step through each morning.

With so many distractions around the house, I dream of a hot cup of coffee and big workspace that isn’t covered in crumbs and spilled milk. That’s why I jumped at the chance to join some of my favourite local mom bosses to head out to the Days Inn & Suites Collingwood for a #Bizcation.
The kind folks at the Days Inn welcomed us with open arms, beds that didn’t need to be shared, and a few goodies to get our creative juices flowing.

I found that Collingwood was the perfect location for a mini retreat. Close enough to drive to in the morning and still feel like you had a full day, but also far enough that I couldn’t get summoned home for any of the million things the inevitably come up. The Collingwood area also has a ton of local attractions when you need to clear your head and step away from your computer. My favourite spots are the Scandinave Spa and Scenic Caves Nature Adventures. Not to mention strolling through the lovely Blue Mountain Village. A refreshing walk by the water was the perfect pick-me-up midway through our day.

Armed with free wi-fi and refuelled by the complimentary breakfast that is included with all stays, I tackled some of my more thorny business issues. I left feeling rejuvenated and ready to return to the Lego battlefield!
