Top 10 Benefits Of Lavender
09/06/2016
Lavender flowers are beautiful, fresh, pungent and floral – most people would recognize their iconic scent immediately. Did you know that we have a beautiful lavender farm located just outside of Toronto? Terre Bleu is a stunning property that the kids {and you!} will love exploring. It features a lavender farm and distillery, bee apiary, horse show ring, and event stage and retail store. Pack a picnic, or pick up some local fruit and snacks at neighbouring farm, and make a day of it!

Here are 10 facts that you may not have known about lavender:
- Lavender belongs to the mint family – a large family which includes herbs such as sage, thyme, rosemary, savory, oregano, balm and, of course, mint
- The plant can be distilled into oil, but it takes over 80kg of hand picked fresh lavender to make just 1 litre of oil.
- Lavender oil can be kept in your medicine cabinet for burns, cuts, scrapes, insect bites, and to help reduce scarring.
- The aroma is known to calm or relax those inhaling it and it is often used as a sleep aid. Add a few drops of oil to your bedding, pillows or to the bottoms of your feet as part of your nightly routine for great sleep.
- Used along the jawline, lavender oil can even be used as a teething aid for babies.
- You can cook or bake with it! The shortbread and ice cream sold at Terre Bleu were our personal favorites.
- Add few drops of lavender oil on a clean cloth and toss in the dryer to infuse a lavender scent into your laundry.
- The Terre Bleu farm features 9 varieties of lavender which bloom from early June to late August. Lavender is typically grown in more temperate climates than Ontario, which is what makes Terre Bleu such a unique place to visit.
- Honey bees are a lovely compliment to lavender farms and help the fields to grow – the Terre Bleu tour includes insightful info into the issues around bee populations.
- Lavender is a very popular scent among North American consumers and brands like Pine-Sol are now offering it in their household cleaners. Thanks to Pine-Sol for inviting us to explore Terre Bleu!
