I was recently introduced to Health & Fitness coach Kathy Klassen. Kathy is a local Mom and entrepreneur who runs a group called “Staying Fit – At Home, At Work”. The timing couldn’t be more perfect as I was ready to start getting back into shape from having Baby #2. She recommended that I try the Shakeology line of nutritional shakes as a way to kick start my goals. I know as mothers we quite often struggle with our post-baby bodies. I thought I’d share my experience with others who may also be looking towards a healthier lifestyle.
I began the Shakeology shakes on a Monday, and committed to replacing one meal per day. I designed a weekly calendar, including meal plans and a workout schedule.
I had two varieties of the Shakeology shakes. One was Tropical Strawberry and the other was Chocolate Vegan. I found that I much preferred the taste of the Tropical Strawberry. My shakes came with recipes that I could use to change up the flavours throughout the week, but as a creature of habit, I found what I liked and stuck to it! I combined one package of Shakeology, ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt, ½ cup frozen strawberries and 6 oz soy milk. The shakes ingredient list show that they contain an assortment of Superfoods such as: quinoa, chia, acai, Spinach and tons more.
I noticed from the first day that the shakes definitely helped supress my appetite. With protein/meal replacement shakes in the past, my biggest complaint is always that I don’t feel satisfied afterwards and end up eating a full meal as well. I didn’t notice an increase in energy so much, although, I do still have a newborn at home, and sleeping through the night is not yet his strong suit! Another thing I liked about this product is that it’s backed by the same people who designed P90X – which I give total credit to for getting me into my wedding dress a few years back!
Results: My week contained three yoga days, and three weight training days. I consumed approximately 1300 calories per day. After the first week, I had dropped just under 5lbs. I think this product is a good addition to someone looking to get healthy, in combination with proper diet and exercise.
