Director Update

10/19/2016

In my last post, I was heading into my first two surgeries, a lymph node biopsy followed by a mastectomy. I healed quite quickly from those surgeries, but unfortunately about one month later, I was hospitalized with an infection. I needed to have a third surgery. As those who are closest to me know, before the most recent surgery I was feeling brave and strong. Since getting released from the hospital, I have been the complete opposite. I feel sad. Overwhelmingly sad. I cry when I see myself naked because my body has been mutilated. I cry when I drop my boys off before heading to doctors’ appointments. Even a song on the radio has brought me to tears. If you’ve never met me personally, and you happen to see a woman crying in the grocery store, it may be me. A little reminder that everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.

I will be beginning chemotherapy this Friday. I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t terrified. I don’t think I’ve ever been more scared in my life. An infection that hit me while my immune system was strong landed me in the hospital for 6 days, to think of what the outcome could have been had my immune system been compromised is too much to for me to even comprehend.

My boys have been very strong. They are anticipating the “medicine that will make Mommys hair fall out”. We’ve tried on wigs together, and gone shopping for hats. As soon as my hair begins to clump out from the chemo, Carsons job will be to shave my head. I think by keeping them involved in this will keep us connected and make the cancer seem less scary.

The fundraiser that has been graciously set up for me is closing at the end of October. I cannot even begin to describe how thankful I am for all of the support I have been receiving. I am truly blessed. The page can be found HERE. I sincerely appreciate every single person who has donated or shared the page.

Despite the ups and downs that come with a new cancer diagnosis, we are extremely excited to be offering programs in January 2017! We will be running a Mom & Baby (up to 12 months) and a Mom & Tot (2-3 year) program beginning in the New Year. Registration will be opening next month. One of my amazing facilitators, Jillian has been rocking our Fall 2016 program (even 7 months pregnant!) and I’m sure we’ll have lots of repeats so these classes will likely fill up fast!

Thank you so much for your continued support and well wishes, and I will update again soon!
